Renewable energies now provide more than a quarter of Germany’s energy needs. The next step is for renewables to become the main pillar of the German energy system. In the future, power production will be dominated by wind and solar power that fluctuates with the weather. This will fundamentally change the energy system and the energy market. The issue at stake will no longer be integration, but rather transformation. This raises the question of how to finance renewable energies in the future – in short, how to successfully develop the Renewable Energy Act.
