Germany and Europe are facing a serious energy crisis. The collapse of Russian gas supplies, increased world market prices for fossil fuels, French nuclear power in crisis and a severe drought have combined to create a "perfect storm" for energy markets. As a result, electricity and gas prices for households and businesses have soared, and more price jumps are on the horizon for this winter and next spring. The price increases hit many consumers hard and therefore raise questions of fairness and redistribution.
A partner publication by the consulting firm Compass Lexecon, commissioned by Agora Energiewende, assesses which short-term measures could be implemented to mitigate the rise in electricity prices without compromising the climate targets.
In an impulse with reference to the third relief package of the German Federal Government, Agora Energiewende evaluates the above mentioned results.
