This project compares numerous potential scenarios for the power system in 2050:
- Power systems with a 90% share of generation from renewables
- Coal-based power systems
- Natural-gas-based power systems
The study examines the technical structures that would develop in systems with more than a 90% share of renewables, the associated costs, and differences with regard to storage-technology ex-pansion. By the same token, the study also investigates the technical structures that would under-lie fossil-fuel-based power systems in 2050, assuming no further deployment of renewables, while also estimating associated costs and emissions.
