International partnership to propel China's net-zero transition forward
Agora Energiewende and the College of Smart Energy, a collaborative venture between Shanghai Jiao Tong University and State Power Investment Corporation, have established a strategic partnership with the aim of jointly expediting China's journey towards achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions. It encompasses a broad spectrum of cooperation areas, including strategic advisory research, implementation of research findings, capacity building training, talent exchange and the establishment of a collaborative hub dedicated to clean energy transition and climate change.
The two parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 11 September 2023 at the Third Europe-China Workshop on Clean Energy Transition. The conference is traditionally hosted in Taiyuan, Shanxi province, as the international sub-forum of the Taiyuan Energy Low Carbon Development Forum, co-hosted by the Shanxi government and several Chinese ministries. The workshop has been instrumental in fostering Europe-China energy dialogues, exchanges, and cooperation. In 2023, it was held in Europe for the first time, focusing on shared net-zero prosperity within an inclusive and sustainable recovery framework.
"The net-zero transition is not only an ecological and human but also a strategic imperative, ensuring the long-term viability and resilience of all stakeholders in an ever-evolving global landscape," said Markus Steigenberger, Managing Director of Agora Energiewende. “In the energy dialogues, we have experienced the potential of the Europe-China cooperation. Together with our partners in China, we aim to strengthen it further to achieve a prosperous net-zero society.”
Agora Energiewende collaborates closely with partners to enhance Europe-China cooperation on energy and climate. Agora’s Team China is dedicated to accelerating clean power sector transformation, advancing industrial decarbonisation, ensuring a just transition in coal regions, promoting corporate decarbonisation strategy, and conducting in-depth analyses of the energy transition in Europe and its implications for China.
