On the path to climate neutrality, countries are seeking to establish reliable, secure and renewables-based energy systems that are also designed to maintain and promote prosperity. In order to encourage an in-depth Europe-China cooperation and exchange at the local level and in key sectors, Agora Energiewende & Agora Energy Transition China together with its partners Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and Shanxi Energy Research Institute is hosting the 3rd Europe-China conference on clean energy transition.
The event took place in Berlin on 11 & 12 September and focus on common goals and pathways to achieve net-zero prosperity for an inclusive and sustainable recovery. It proofed a unique opportunity to meet with local stakeholders from the major coal-producing region in China, Shanxi province, and exchange views on the main issues and barriers on the way to a net-zero future.
On day 1, Monday, 11 September, we touched upon power sector decarbonisation, demand-side flexibility, regional transition and energy transition in coal regions.
On day 2, Tuesday, 12 September, the focus was on industry decarbonisation, corporate net-zero transition, EU CBAM and EU-China trade.
For both days, speakers representing various sectors from Europe and China were invited to share their insights and to discuss opportunities for cooperation to promote net-zero prosperity.
Since 2021, this annual workshop has been organised in China. This September was the first time we relocated the event from Shanxi province to Berlin and invited Chinese and European stakeholders to meet in person after the Covid outbreak.
