Dr. Claudio Baccianti

Project Manager EU Sustainable Finance

Claudio Baccianti works primarily on sustainable finance, green fiscal policy and the EU Green Deal. Before joining Agora Energiewende in February 2021, he was an Economist at a global macro hedge fund in London. Claudio started working on climate policy at the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) in 2011, where he specialized in developing modelling tools to assess the impacts of environmental and innovation policies. Between 2018 and 2019, he was a PhD Trainee at the European Central Bank and Intern at the International Monetary Fund in the Summer of 2017.

Claudio holds a PhD in Economics from Tilburg University and has a MSc in Economics and Econometrics from the University of Essex. He previously studied Economics at the University of Siena and the University of Florence.

The latest McKinsey report on the net-zero transition adds to a stream of studies (e.g. IEA) showing global average impacts, with little regional insights. I find global results almost useless, even misleading. Investment needs and impacts will be v different across countries.
