Institute of Power Systems and Power Economics / RWTH Aachen University

The Institute of Power Systems and Power Economics (IAEW) is part of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at RWTH Aachen University. Head of the institute is Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Albert Moser. IAEW is specialized in the evaluation of – particularly electrical – energy systems in terms of technical, economic and political as well as environmental aspects. Focus lies in the simulation, optimization and evaluation of extension and operation of power systems. IAEW has profound knowledge and experience for decades in modelling of power markets and electrical grids (in both, transmission and distribution grids). IAEW for e.g. has worked in the context of the German power grid development plans 2012 and 2013 on behalf of the four German TSO. Competences of IAEW cover fields of dispatch simulation as well as network operation, network planning and evaluation of the security of supply. Moreover, regulatory aspects of these fields are addressed.
